Happy 4th of July

When I went plein air painting last week at Evergreen nursery, I had in mind something red, white and blue. I guess because the 4th of July was coming up and I wanted to paint something ‘happy’ for the event…and for this blog!
My creative mind is at work long before starting the actual artwork. It’s been said that creativity breeds happiness. To me, art and happiness are inevitably intertwined. When I create a piece of art, it takes me outside of my personal struggles and it forces me to be in the present moment, refocus my attention to positive sensations of exploration, and challenges.

All you need is...

Live And Let Die

What to do with your dying poinsettia?  I was clearing the last Christmas decorations off my house. There was a pitiful poinsettia staring at me. “Hmm! Just too bad that I have to get rid of it. Maybe I could do something creative with it before it dies” I thought. “Lets paint it!” I exclaimed! So I got a canvas on the easel and cranked up the Jazz music. Soon after, I went wild with the brush. Here is my creation with my soon to be gone poinsettia. I titled it: Live And Let Die, oil on canvas, 24”X24”.
